Conclusion

Most items to be applied on a battery PACK line come in roll form: insulation sheets, thermal pads, metal sheets, warning labels. Their widths, thicknesses, and peeling difficulties vary, so the feeding end must adjust the threading path item by item according to the material, rather than switching to another machine.

The manual for BestFeeder label feeders states it directly: whether paper labels or FPC reinforcement steel sheets, various Mylar tapes, foam, dust mesh, high-temperature tape, and other roll materials can all be used; within the size range, one feeder is compatible with materials of different sizes, and also supports single-row or multi-column.

Four Common Types of Placement Materials in Battery Modules

  1. Insulation sheets and Mylar tape: electrical isolation between the module and the casing, available in sheet or roll form;
  2. Thermal pads and heat dissipation stickers: between the cells and the cooling plate, relatively soft material with thickness;
  3. Metal sheets: connection pieces, reinforcement pieces, etc., listed in the manual as materials that can run on the feeder;
  4. Warning labels: high-voltage warnings, fire warnings, and traceability labels with QR codes.

The difficulty of the first two types is not in placing, but in feeding. The material is soft and thick; if the threading path and pressing plate height are wrong, it will drift or be stretched.

Three Adjustments on the Material Path According to the Material

  • Retaining ring positioning: after the material roll is fitted onto the label mounting shaft sleeve, use the retaining ring to limit it, preventing side-to-side movement;
  • Width-limiting guide block: use an Allen wrench to loosen the inner set screws, and move the guide block to position according to the roll width;
  • Pressing plate height: loosen the four set screws on the pressing plate and adjust according to material thickness. Too loose, and the tape moves up and down; too tight, and it leaves creases on the material.

The anti-stick platform material can be selected from Teflon, white silicone, or red silicone; materials with the adhesive side facing outward are more sensitive to this.

Peeling Blade Direction Selected by Peeling Difficulty

The manual says two things about the peeling blade: for small labels that are difficult to peel, turn the blade to the side with a smaller angle; for large labels or labels that peel off easily, they can bypass the spring winding shaft to prevent premature peeling due to an excessive angle.

Warning labels are getting smaller, and QR codes still need to be scannable—these two points come in handy.

Single-Row or Multi-Column

The same feeder supports single-row or multi-column. Module lines often have multiple identical labels on one board, for example 4 traceability labels on one BMS board; in this case, multi-column picking can split one feeding run among multiple pick positions, reducing the number of feeding runs.

The number of columns is constrained by label width: LFSID-32 has a label width of 2–23 mm, LFSID-60 is 5–59 mm, LFSID-100 is 2–98 mm; the narrower the label, the more columns can be arranged. Multi-column models have peeling blades and fiber-optic detection channels configured according to the number of columns; the specific arrangement must be confirmed according to the actual reel.

Width Coverage of Warning Labels

Label width coverage depends on the model. For the standard on-screen feeder range from LFSID-60S to LFSID-250S, label width coverage goes from 58 mm to 248 mm; the classic LFS-60 / LFS-100 / LFS-150 correspond to three ranges: 5–58 / 5–98 / 5–148 mm.

Warning labels for battery packs are often made 100 mm or larger; when selecting, first match the lower and upper width limits, then check whether the material wheel can fit into the station.

Interfacing with the Placement Machine

  • Feed signal: when the interface is set to “use”, the feeder waits for the placement machine to give a 0V signal from the green wire before feeding a label; when set to “not use”, the feeder automatically feeds when there is no label on the material platform.
  • Material-present signal: after the interface is set to “use”, when the feeder has a label, it gives the placement machine a 0V signal through the yellow wire.

If you want to follow the placement machine’s rhythm and avoid empty feeding, let the placement machine give the feed signal; if you want the feeding end to maintain labels at the pick position on its own, use automatic feeding.
