Conclusion
Small consumer electronics boards are small with dense components, and placement machine slots are packed tightly. A wide-body feeder installed in such slots will collide with adjacent slots. This factory ultimately chose the LFSUMSUNG-60: body width 90 mm, weight 6 kg, small footprint on Samsung (Hanwha) feeder slots, label width 2–58 mm, 1–8 lanes — sufficient without taking up extra space.
Production line and previous labeling method
The line uses Samsung (Hanwha) placement machines, producing small appliance control boards and charger boards. Board dimensions are not large, and component density is high. Labels are product model and certification marks, small in size, mostly under 20 mm in width.
The previous method was manual labeling after placement, with one person managing two lines. Boards are small, and label positions on a board are very close to components; during manual labeling, fingers easily brushed against nearby components. Certification marks require consistent orientation, and manual labeling occasionally applied them reversed.
Selection: why the LFSUMSUNG-60
During selection, wider models were considered first, as they could cover more label types. The problem was slot spacing: this factory’s line has very densely arranged feeder slots, and with a wide body installed, finger space between adjacent slots disappeared — changing material required removing neighboring feeders.
The LFSUMSUNG-60 has a body of 670 × 90 × 265 mm, weighs 6 kg, and is only 90 mm wide, leaving operating space in densely packed slots. Specifications are sufficient: label width 2–58 mm, length L2–40 mm, 1–8 lanes, 1–8 fiber sensors. This factory’s labels are all within 58 mm, so a wider model was unnecessary — the extra width would only translate into occupied space.
Installation and commissioning
Installation followed the standard procedure: mount on feeder slot, thread material, align fiber sensors, adjust parameters via touchscreen.
The focus of commissioning at this factory was small labels. Narrow labels leave a small area after peeling when stopping at the pick position, and the nozzle pick tolerance is also small. The approach was to adjust the feed position first, then adjust feed speed — if too fast, labels overshoot the pick position; feed delay was set according to nozzle return time, preferring slower operation over letting labels wobble at the pick position.
The orientation issue with certification marks cannot be fully solved by the feeder — the arrangement direction of labels on the backing paper must first be confirmed with incoming material; the feeder is only responsible for delivering to the same position each time. This was settled during commissioning after checking incoming material drawings with the customer.
Changes after installation
Labeling moved from manual to inline. The two lines previously had one person managing labeling; this station has now been eliminated. Label orientation no longer relies on human memory, because each delivery to the pick position is at the same location. The brushing issue caused by small boards and dense components no longer occurs, as the placement head picks material without fingers entering the board area.
The footprint of this equipment was the main reason this factory ultimately selected it. Specific figures for capacity and defect rate are subject to customer statistics and are not repeated here.
FAQ
With a 90 mm wide body, how wide can labels be? The LFSUMSUNG-60 supports label widths of 2–58 mm. For wider labels, the LFSUMSUNG-100 is needed, but its body is also wider — check slot spacing before installation.
One unit per slot, or can multiple units be installed? Lines with many label types and high usage can install multiple units, arranged according to the lane requirements of each slot.
Are Samsung and Hanwha the same feeder slot system? Samsung (Hanwha) models share one type of feeder slot structure; provide the specific model during selection for confirmation.
